Tech Prep

Overview

In 2004, GateWay Early College High School was one of only fourteen schools in the United States to be awarded a Tech Prep Demonstration Program grant. GateWay received almost $700,000 to help design and implement a Tech Prep program for incoming high school Juniors who will focus their academic studies in one of three technical/voational areas of study.

Tech Prep, or Technical Preparation, is a nationwide program that allows students to receive college credits in technical courses while attending high school. GateWay’s Tech Prep Program offers a high school education that facilitates a seamless transition into community college courses that lead to a Certificate of Completion, or an Associate’s Degree in one of  three technical areas. Each of these exciting occupations is aligned to industries that are in great need of qualified employees.  Tech Prep graduates are highly employable!

Tech Prep students can begin taking college courses, along with their high school classes, in their very first semester at Gate Way.  The number and technical nature of college courses will increase each semester, and students will receive both high school and college credits for these courses. This program allows students to accelerate progress in attaining an Associate Applied Science Degree or a Certificate of Completion.
